The Modern Cinema Group Story
The company’s foundation is derived from the vision of its founder Ross Cooper. After his starting Verimatrix, Ross saw that there is a tremendous need in the world of media distribution to solve the problem of content and more efficient means to get it to the consumers. He saw that the current trends in technology will reach limits that will either slow distribution to a crawl or just make it economically unfeasible for people to get access to media the world over. This problem is very much more evident in emerging markets then it is in the western economies, but we will be hit with similar problems as more and more content taxes the limits of the networks. We already see that carriers like Verizon have had to ramp down the download speeds when they allowed unlimited data access to consumers. This problem is even bigger in markets where the consumers do not buy their data minutes in advance, but in blocks. This method means that their data time is much more precious.
In addition to the distribution problem, the costs and control of content has also been a major issue. While major studios can finance projects and take risks on projects that may not fit the mold, the costs have continued to increase and it makes it harder for them to develop advante garde projects, and our offerings have suffered. To address this issue, Ross has put together a strategic financing model that will allow media carriers, ( aka platform operators) you would see them as mobile or cable operators, to take part in the financing and take some ownership of projects. These are the people who get the films after the theatrical releases. By putting this patent pending model together, Ross has been able to get more people involved in the process and spread the risks. The very nature of the process allows even small investors to take interest in projects that they have never had the opportunity to do previously. This gives the projects an almost grass roots aspect, while still holding true to the visions of the producers and the creative persons. By spreading the risk, it should allow for more freedom to the creative, but accountability comes from the box office. And by spreading the ownerhip, more parties have a vested interest in the success of the projects.
To launch this exchange, Modern Cinema has joined forces with Pride Holdings Group, a company with a long history and experience in managing and launching commodities exchanges. This partnership will allow the company to not only build this exchange but it provides links to emerging markets that are the cornerstone to many of the projects we want to put on the exchange.
I addition to the exchange, the company has developed software and hardware solutions to provide quick access to data in the emerging markets. This would include utilizing the under used LTE-B or LTE Broadcast channels that have been developed. Modern Cinema has developed a patent pending method to allow it to use these back channels to distribute information much more efficiently then the current methods. In addition, it will be able to provide wifi access, which is the preferred video distribution method to people who have to pay in advance blocks for data. The company has metro system wifi networks that use the LTE-B channels to load up content for the consumers, all while having access to the direct feed internet for live events etc.
These models would not be possible without the foresight and vision of Ross, and his patented technology. When you combine the expertise of data encryption and protection he has from his Verimatrix days, you see how this company is poised to take over the media financing and distribution industry in the coming years.
