(Robin) Ross Cooper has 30 years of experience as a successful entrepreneur and corporate officer. He is an accomplished inventor with numerous patents to his name.
After authoring the best-selling “Preparation for the SAT” software series (1980s) and founding Internet Magic in 1996 (sold to Intel), Ross founded Verimatrix in 2000, where he went on to build a dynamic and focused management team that quickly moved into a market-leading position.
Verimatrix captured the title “Category Leader” in 2004 – just four years after its launch. In the summer of 2004, Mr. Cooper proposed a watermarking plan to the Motion Picture Association and all major Hollywood studios. Mr. Cooper’s plan was approved by the Hollywood community at large, and watermarking processes were initiated later that year. Today, DVDs sent for Academy Award or Golden Globe consideration are typically watermarked thanks to Mr. Cooper’s efforts in partnership with Fox.
Mr. Cooper is the Executive Producer for movie, television and music projects. Mr. Cooper has been responsible for the creation and operation of many companies in the areas of Media & Entertainment, Education, Psychometrics and Health Sciences. Mr. Cooper is currently negotiating the rights to his original story named “Wingman”.
Throughout her career, Laura has ignited power partnerships between Hollywood studios, content creators and distributors, digital and mobile services, policy makers, and venture capitalists in Los Angeles, New York and Silicon Valley, and around the world. She is an expert in media and entertainment with a deep understanding of the current ecosystem and its future. She is zealous about copyright, patent and trademark issues, she specializes in facilitating licensing and distribution agreements to bring compelling movie and TV shows to fans worldwide, whether online, mobile or on other devices.
Most recently, she co-founded Fanhattan, which created the award-winning entertainment discovery service FAN TV. Earlier, as Vice President of Intellectual Property Enforcement at MGM Studios, she built the anti-piracy and content protection division from the ground-up while creating and advancing the most critical federal anti-piracy legislation in the past 20 years, ART Act/HR 4077, which was signed into law by President Bush in June 2005. While at MGM she initiated and supervised the Grokster case.
Her career began as a law clerk for the NFL’s Los Angeles Raiders, where she participated in the White vs. NFL case. Passionate about equal opportunity and the environment, Laura served as an Executive Director of Marine Mammal Conservation through the Arts and has volunteered for the United Boys and Girls Club as well as mentored a number of young women.
Film Marketing and Distribution
Mitchell has over 35 years of experience in motion picture exhibition, marketing and distribution. In 1985 he joined New Line Cinema, starting the company’s in-house distribution division and building it into one of the most successful organizations in the country. He was the President and Chief of Operating Officer of New Line Distribution from 1985 to 1996 and President and Chief of Operating Officer of Marketing and Distribution from 1996 to 1999.
Under his leadership, New Line grew from a source of exploitation and niche films into a diversified major distributor of mainstream and specialized product. He oversaw New Line’s mainstream successes such as The Wedding Singer, Michael, Seven, Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, and the Austin Powers, Friday, House Party, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nightmare on Elm Street and Blade franchises.
Mitchell’s strategic marketing and distribution of a number of the company’s specialized films enabled them to “cross over” and achieve success with mainstream audiences: Wag the Dog, Shine, and Boogie Nights, The Player and Hoop Dreams. Currently he consults in film marketing and distribution for studios and producers: Kill Bill 2 and Monster. Mitchell is a long-standing member and served on the board of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, Motion Picture Pioneers, and the Will Rogers Institute.
Ms. Berman specializes in acquiring and marketing Hollywood movies for digital platforms in all post theatrical windows. Most recently she ran her own consulting firm, where clients included SanDisk, Lufthansa Systems, Vubiquity and Verimatrix.
Previously Senior Vice President of Programming for ViewNow (Vubiquity) and Vice President Programming & Licensing for SeaChange International, her extensive entertainment experience also includes stints at MGM and Sony Pictures in worldwide distribution. An active member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Interactive Media Peer Group, Ms. Berman is also the author of numerous featured articles for Via Satellite Magazine and Access Intelligence’s online newsletters.
Jim has more than 40 years of senior leadership experience in global IT and telecommunications operations, engineering, and business development with Accenture, AT&T, British Telecom, IBM, Verizon, and Cisco.
Jim has extensive experience in the following areas:
- C-Level Advisory and Consultant Services – Guide development of managed services; integrate operations, sales, marketing, and support; develop business growth strategies; and facilitate strategic planning for global growth
- Managed Services Development — Develop managed services and create value-add propositions to expand markets and increase revenues
- Outsourcing/Transformation Operations — Lead outsourcing organizations and manage transition and operations phases of outsourced functions to reduce costs and increase client satisfaction and revenues
- Organizational Re-engineering — Re-engineer domestic and international operating units to achieve greater efficiency and profitability
- Organization Leadership — Develop and lead technical organizations including sales and solution development engineers
People Development — Develop, motivate, and lead teams to achieve goals
As Chairman of The ROBB Group Mr. Robb was responsible for advisory board development and strategic relationships that supported the growth of the consulting firm. He co-authored the consulting company’s library of best practices, process, tools and products and helped develop the company’s first commercial product Alliance Builder with noted author and Alliance expert Sarah Gerdes. Jim drove C level customer relationships with Avnet, MCI, Verizon, XO, and helped facilitate the firm’s track record of revenue acceleration and turn-around successes. Mr. Robb helped launch a spin off consulting firm called Channel Savvy that consulted to hundreds of channel partners and resellers for HP, Oracle, Sage Software, IBM, DELL, Microsoft and Oracle. Channel Savvy was purchased by Avnet in 2010.
Mr. Robb co-authored The ROBB Group’s library of revenue optimization, channel optimization and competitive displacement methods, practices, process and products such as the Corporate Revenue Audit, Global Sales Audit, Channel Analyzer and Channel CEO Institute curriculum.
John Blank, Zacks Chief Equity Strategist, writes frequently, nationally and internationally. He has lately become an expert on publicly traded stocks, and serves as the editor of the daily Zacks Large Cap Trader newsletter and previously, on the International Trader. He re-publishes industry articles for Modern Trader magazine too; and opines on monthly macro and top-down investment strategy, and forecasts for global financial markets — for Zacks Premium and Zacks.com. These reports can also be found on Fidelity.com. In this role, he jointly advises the investment management arm, termed Zacks Investment Management (ZIM). This group manages over $5 billion in assets. He writes their Zacks Stock Market Outlook report.
10 years ago in 2007, John began his business relationship with Ross Cooper, Acting as CEO and creator of Media Derivatives; they founded the world’s first futures exchange for hedging premium content movie financial risk. Ross and he were awarded CFTC approval for both listed movie futures and an electronic trading system.
Earlier in his career, he held a faculty position at the University of California-Santa Cruz, did transfer pricing at Ernst & Young LLP, and consulted as an economist at the Boston Consulting Group, JP Morgan Chase, and CME Group.
John earned his PhD. in economics from M.I.T. and has a B.A. with honors and distinction in Mathematics for the Social Sciences from Northwestern University.
